Rankings through games of 2011-11-20

New entries: Michigan, Virginia Tech.

Dropped out: Southern Miss., Arizona St..

With an LSU-Alabama rematch looking more likely, RBA finds it hard to argue. Alabama and LSU remain ranked #1 and #2, respectively, thanks to their dominating defenses and highly efficient offenses. Beyond the top two, RBA disagrees mightily with the current BCS standings. (3) Oregon and (4) Oklahoma stay put because they lost close games and continued their history of explosive offense. (5) Oklahoma State didn't rise in the rankings so much as (6) Wisconsin and (7) Stanford dropped due to weak offensive performances against overmatched competition. (8) Arkansas still doesn't get any RBA love due to their 9th rated offense and 16th rated defense.

The notable exclusion from the top 10? (23) Virginia Tech. The BCS computers have the Hokies ranked #5, but RBA barely has them in the top 25 thanks to a surprisingly flaky 0.0 +/- 23.8 PPH defense. The Hokies surrendered 23 in a losing effort to (16) Clemson and 35 to (19) Miami. They barely escaped (85) Duke with a 14-10 victory thanks to their 20.6 +/- 5.3 PPH offense. Basically, Virginia Tech hasn't played well this year, and they're being rewarded by the BCS for being one of the last teams standing.
